Subject: RIVERSIDE LODGE INNOVATIVE RENOVATION TO INCLUDE A MEMORY SUPPORT WING
Riverside Lodge Retirement Community recognizes the unique challenges for individuals with Alzheimer’s or related dementias. Riverside Lodge is broadening the services they provide to residents and is remodeling part of their campus to adapt to changing resident needs, says Deb Friend, Executive Director. “We are pleased we will be the first retirement community in the area to offer Memory Support in conjunction with our Assisted and Independent Living choices as well as Senior Condominiums all on one campus. This will truly be unmatched care for seniors.”
The Memory Support wing will be a secure area with specially trained staff on duty around the clock. A licensed nurse works in the building twenty four hours per day, every day of the week. Each staff person will participate in an initial training/orientation program specific to memory care and will receive additional training annually. The emphasis on care and activities will be to enhance resident strengths and abilities, focusing on what they can do, not what they can’t do.
There will be distinctive areas where residents congregate for meals, activities and socializing. The Memory Support wing will serve 14 residents and feature a substantial common area, including a beautiful living room with a fireplace, comfortable sitting areas and family style dining. The dining and activity room provide a bright sunny area for home style meals and activities, designed to engage and stimulate residents with cognitive/memory issues. Outside there is a secure patio and garden area to encourage residents to enjoy the outdoors.
Residents will decorate their private room with their own familiar furnishings to help ease the transition to their new home. The resident rooms and hallways are being remodeled to provide a fresh new look in this area and those updates will continue throughout the building shortly thereafter.
The Thayer Family is committed to continue the standard of excellence Jan Thayer pioneered for senior living. Mrs. Thayer was nationally recognized as a prominent advocate for improving the standard of care for senior citizens. The Riverside Lodge team has many wonderful long-term staff members that are dedicated to following the high standards of quality by serving our residents according to Jan Thayer’s motto: “To care for our residents as though they are the most loved member of our family.”
Riverside Lodge expects to open the newly remodeled wing early 2016.
